Romantic Stories I, 2021
fabric installation, base made of polypropylene sacks, neon yarn, recycled materials, reclaimed yarn
70 x 50 cm

On a base of polypropylene – a material commonly used in construction and gardening – I create an abstract pattern using the tufting technique. This plastic fabric is typically used to cover surfaces, shielding them from lightor human gaze. In this piece, it is pierced with neon-colored yarn, resembling lichen that spreads in a fluid, organic manner. The series of works Romantic Stories reflects on tensions between the visible and the hidden, the natural and the constructed. I work with light – not asa tangible property inherent to nature, but as something tamed and transformed by civilization. Light reveals itself in the industrial qualities of the yarn, and as a “lost” possibility beneath the surface of the black matter. Graduation work completed at the Faculty of Painting, Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków (2021).

Presented as part of the Urban Neon exhibition during the KRAKERS Art Festival. Curated by Angelika Wojas.
