I am a visual artist, designer, and craftswoman working primarily with textiles. Trained in painting and graphic arts, I specialize in creating carpet-like objects using the tufting technique. I am the founder of Popradzkie Studio, a rug workshop where I explore the space between functionality and experimentation, design and art. My practice navigates the space between functionality and experimentation, design and art. My works find poetry in absence and in the physical struggle embedded within dreamlike, sensual forms. I think of my carpet objects as existing in an “un-natural” environment — homeless rugs removed from domestic interiors and placed in gardens or urban courtyards, where they seem to come alive at night, subtly unsettling their surroundings. Tension is a central element in my practice. It unfolds in the intersection between nature and artificiality, comfort and misalignment, automatism and introspection, improvisation and control.
