Untitled I, 2021
recycled materials, neon yarn, cotton thread, construction bags
70 x 50 cm
70 x 50 cm
The work explores the tension between traditional artistic media and DIY strategies related to reclaiming and recontextualizing materials. The machine tufting process on construction bags blurs the boundaries between craftsmanship, art, and waste, challenging traditional aesthetics associated with painting and textiles. In the work, I address the themes of shame and reparations as a tender gesture toward marginalized, “polluted” materials. The red thread with which I stitch the fragments of the base creates scars or traces, suggesting a process of healing, repair, or acknowledgment of the past while reclaiming control over the material and its meaning.
Between 2021 and 2023, this object was part of the collection of Our Little Garden named after Derek Jarman in Kraków.
